One day I'll have a chance to finish editing all the flower pictures I took last week. Who knows when that'll be, though… just realized I have a research paper due on Friday, a Photoshop assignment due tomorrow, a group project due on Thursday (and my group is a crap group that can't get stuff together… one person hasn't even checked in to the group yet). Oh, and Alex starts soccer on Thursday! Busy week, me thinks.

more pretties

I think I've gotten my money's worth out of the ranunculus I picked up earlier in the week. I've really enjoyed shooting them. I'm FINALLY beginning to feel like I'm FINALLY getting out of that crappy slump/funk I've been in (photography-wise) for the past couple of years. I think the new (and better) camera has helped with that. I'm thankful for it… I'm feeling a bit more like myself again.

I decided to go for a filmy b/w look on these. I still have more to edit, and will eventually post the color edits as well.

I have to admit… I'm really digging the b/w film look… with the grain added in during processing…

But color can be nice, too. :)

ranunculus

white

I love flowers. I really do. I don't usually buy them, though… they always die. I spotted these ranunculus at the grocery store yesterday and just couldn't pass them by. These are on my list of favorite flowers right along with tulips, peonies, and hydrangeas.

.

I took the opportunity to take pictures of them yesterday afternoon when Jack decided we were going to go out in the backyard for a bit. I'm sure my neighbor (who was out working in his yard at the time) probably thought I was a bit nuts. Ah well.

ruffles

I played with textures a bit on these… something I haven't done in AGES. I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the final outcome (other than that very top one).

These are also sized a bit bigger than usual. I'm having issues with web-sizing for Facebook (and I'm lazy and don't want to do everything twice), so I'm trying out a bigger web-sized image. We'll see what happens and if it lasts.

These flowers have me so excited for Spring. And itching to do yard work. Trust me… that NEVER happens. I detest yard work. That was the only plus of living in a townhouse with zero yard last year. That and the fact that there was a landscaping company hired to mow our tiny little lawn. :)

dinosaurs

030712-0852 copy

Last week Jack and I were sitting in the playroom when he heard some booming outside. He asked me what it was and I told him what it was. He looked at me and said ever so matter-of-factly…

"no… I think it's dinosaurs."

Well… ok then. Dinosaurs, it is. :)

10/52 - Looking Up

Week 10 - Looking Up.

brotherly

I was playing around with my camera the other day and just taking random shots of the boys… still trying to get a feel for the thing. I happened to look up and noticed this...

Jack decided he was going to "help" Alex write out his reading log entry.

I wonder if he thinks Alex's handwriting is as messy as we do. :)

On a completely separate note… I was flipping through my archives earlier today and noticed that I only blogged 47 times in 2011. Um… wow. When you compare that to the 300+ posts in 2009 it's just ridiculous. I used to absolutely LOVE blogging. Still do, when it comes right down to it. I just need to do a better job of remembering to write down the stories I want to share.

hello, winter

We got another glimpse of winter today.

It was beautiful…

And incredibly peaceful to watch falling to the ground.

It inspired me to get my camera and macro lens out…

They aren't perfect, but it's been a while since I've shot macros. I was reminded just how much I love it.

I picked Jack up from school early so he could have a few minutes to play in the snow before it started to melt. He didn't get to play last time because he was sick.

He had fun making snowballs and throwing them… especially the few he threw at me. :)  Soon, though, his hands started getting a little too cold (he can't make snowballs with his mittens on)… so we had to head back in the house. And not long after that all the snow was gone. It melted about as quickly as it arrived.

And now that we've had another glimpse of winter… I'm ready for Spring to arrive (and stay).
